Belgium was involved from the very start of the First World War with the Germans invading Belgium on the way through to capture Paris.

The Schieffen plan was executed by the Germans and this invasion bought about British involvement as part of the 1839 agreement to protect Belgium.

The brave Belgium army resisted the Germans advance for almost a month giving the French and The British army time to prepare for the  Marne Counter offensive which took place on  5 and 12 September 1914.

It resulted in an Allied victory against the German Army under Chief of Staff Helmuth von Moltke the Younger.
